Maulana has steadfastly defended the Afghan Taliban at every forum. He has been their unofficial spokesman, highlighting and promptly clarifying their stand on issues and defending their cause. He is unapologetic about supporting the Afghan Taliban and has the courage to openly express his admiration for them. This book reflects not only the views of the Afghan Taliban, but also Maulana Samiul Haq’sunabashedly pro-Taliban stance.

Aside from the intriguing insights into OBL and his family, the book also tackles the most asked questions Ul Haq has faced from journalists about Islam and women’s issues figure quite high on the list. While not exhaustive, anyone picking up this book will put it down with a great understanding of Islam, the Taliban and a different perspective of how the war in Afghanistan began. In some ways its an antidote to the extreme Bush and Blair narratives which still persist in some quarters today.

The teachings of Maulana Samiul Haq and the religious establishment that his family established in northern Pakistan have played an important and vital role in defining Islamic belief, law and education in the modern era. The Maulana educated many of the Taliban leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan, his religious influence stretches to Central Asia and the Caucasus and he had also expressed sympathy for Osama bin Laden before and after September 11, 2001. His teachings remain controversial, but there is little doubt that he has helped define the era that we live in..

Samiul Haq has published an interesting study which is part biography, part 9/11 history of Taliban in Afghanistan, part explanation of some Islamic principles and part brief overview of his role in peace talks initiated by the government of Pakistan in 2013 and early 2014.
I chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during 2004-2009, and took the Committee on several high level international visits. Senator Samiul Haq, who always accompanied me, was asked to present his perspective on the role of madaris since he heads Darul Uloom Haqqania, one of Pakistan’s most famous madressa, more so for the fact that a large number of Taliban leaders studied there.
Maulana can help promote genuine reconciliation in Afghanistan through talks between President Ashraf Ghani and Dr Abdullah Abdullah and the Afghan Taliban so that after 35 years of conflict, confrontation, bloodshed and turmoil, Afghanistan can move forward towards building a better tomorrow based on peace, harmony and coexistence.
